“Cultivating Wholeness and Healing through the Practice of Presence: a Community Event for Healthcare Professionals”

We’re in healthcare because we’ve found our profession to be worthy of our values and talents, and we worthy to serve and explore within its vast domains. 

And yet … many of us now find our work experiences increasingly fraught, to say the least. The stress of the workload is often high, and the compromises forced by limitations in time and energy; forced by competing demands; forced by ever more frequent instances of moral injury; forced by the culture of marketing and mass information; and forced by the questions and confusions presented by the expanding presence of AI; the compromises forced by ALL of this are dismaying, tiresome and often demoralizing. Some of us are just a little more exhausted than we’d like. Some are just trying to hang in there until retirement. Some have burned out or are on the thresholds. Some have contemplated leaving healthcare altogether despite all the years of personal sacrifice and investment. 

The community of healthcare professionals that comprise HSH Sac believe that the human dimension is not only core to the healing encounter, but is also core to responding to the threats that confront healthcare practitioners today. Together, in conversation and mutual encouragement, we can bring our most important values to the grit and grain of our daily lives, at work and at home. 

In this spirit, HSH Sac is pleased to announce a special event featuring Marie Haverfield PhD, co-investigator into the use of Presence-5 circles with healthcare providers, and co-author of the study published in JAMA, “Practices to Foster Physician Presence and Connection With Patients in the Clinical Encounter” (JAMA. 2020;323[1]:70-81), available via this URL: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2758456?resultClick=1.

This event will involve a presentation by Dr. Haverfield, followed by Q & A, and then a small group experience exploring components of the Presence-5 model.
